Workshop: Photography is a Zine

  • Library Lower Level Purchase College (map)

"Photography is a Zine" is an immersive workshop taught by esteemed librarian and historian Tony White. In this hands-on class, participants will embark on an exciting journey to create "Zines in a day." The workshop is designed to be a collaborative process, fostering creativity and collective effort.

Using an eclectic mix of found images and text, participants will explore the boundaries of traditional zine-making. The materials range from vernacular found images—everyday snapshots, postcards, and advertisements—to fine art photographs, providing a rich tapestry of visual and textual elements to work with.

Throughout the workshop, Tony White will guide participants through the steps of selecting, arranging, and compiling these diverse elements into unique zines. The process emphasizes the value of collaboration, encouraging participants to share ideas, materials, and techniques. By the end of the day, each participant will have created a distinct zine that reflects the group's collective creativity and individual contributions.

This workshop not only teaches the technical skills of zine-making but also celebrates the art of storytelling through images and text. Participants will leave with a unique set of zines, each a testament to the power of collaborative artistic expression and the beauty of combining disparate elements into a cohesive narrative.
